Ladies and gentlemen, fasten your seatbelts and return your tray tables to their full upright position. Prepare for a musical ride more promising than a blanket and a bag of peanuts. All aboard, this ride is the band Normal Like You. Spawned from the town of Livermore, eclipsed in the rolling hills of northern California, Normal Like You was established in 2001. Still in high school, the boys managed to record and release their first full-length album, “Your Reminder”.
Normal Like You instantly became a household name in northern California, separating themselves from the overabundance of alternative rock bands with both their incredibly unique sound and electrifying live performances. In 2003, NLY released “The Worst Of Many Flaws”, an EP recorded by Mike Green (The Matches, Rufio, Over It). Three years, two full U.S. tours, and countless relocations and member changes later, Normal Like You returned to the studio to create their most impressive project yet. The self-produced, self-recorded “Planes, Trains, & Automobiles” was released for free to give back to the fans that have stuck with NLY over the years. On a Normal Like You recording, and especially at a live performance, you can definitely find that slap in the ass that rock has been waiting for. Sounds best described as hailing from folk, progressive rock, and pop music with sophisticated lyrics and melodies. NLY songs are created to have a good time to, but can also give you something to speculate; if you choose to open the book, it’s a good read. Normal Like You is that tailgating, halftime show, roller-skating rink, extracurricular activity that you just can’t get enough of. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, this ride is gaining speed and certainly won’t be stopped anytime soon.
